Facebook on Tuesday said it'd apologized to White House social network director Dan Scavino for momentarily blocking some attributes on his account to get a couple hours on Monday. In a statement, the social network giant also said that its automated systems mistook Scavino to get a bot. Scavino wrote on Facebook on Monday he was being obstructed from responding to comment on the platform. AMAZING. Why are you silencing me? .?.?. , Scavino wrote. President Donald Trump also weighed in on Tuesday, tweeting he'd be looking into the problem with Scavino's accounts, which has already been restored. Later in the afternoon, during a joint press conference with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, he returned to the problem, stating, There is discrimination, there's large discrimination, and adding, Something's happening with these groups of folks which are conducting Facebook, and Google, and Twitter, and I do think we've to get at the bottom of it." . As in Scavino's case, such complaints about bias have frequently been shown to stem from legitimate violations of the program's principles or mistakes by the platforms or both, as opposed to real discrimination against conservatives. In a statement issued right after the president's tweet, a Facebook spokesperson clarified, so as to stop automated robots, we limit the quantity of identical, repetitive action coming from one account in a brief amount of time, like @mentioning people. These limits may have the unintended effect of momentarily preventing real people like Dan Scavino from participating in such action, but lift within one hour or two, and that's what occurred in this case.". The company added: We have been in contact with him and have apologized for the inconvenience.".
